Things Just Ain't the Way They Used to Be

Things just ain't the way they used to be
I reckon that's the way it has to be
But things are getting worse
Every new day seems a curse
I wake up with the fear of what's to be

I used to watch the news to be informed
Now it's infotainment not reported but performed
I can't sit thru 10 minutes 
Before I start to grimace
I turn it off and wonder what went wrong

​

I used to think I knew one when I saw one
Thought it was clear & everybody knew
But somehow it was said 
Someone got it in their head
That corporations have the same rights people do
 
Why are folks so afraid of migrants?
Your family tree's not likely rooted here
Even so-called 'native Americans'
Came from somewhere other than
The neighborhood they occupy today

Why is there a Department of War?
Just to add a wave of conquests to the score?
Or maybe it will be  
That the war is meant to be
Against anyone the bastard may abhor       
 
I thought listening to smart people was wise
That scientists helped everyone survive
But it seems we're headed back
To medieval quacks
Who haven't got a clue but proselytize

Things just ain't the way they used to be
Cause many folks don't care and this is key
One third could not be bothered
To show up and be counted
In the home of the brave, land of the free
